Guided by the hands of others...
Genealogy is really building on the work of others. But it is also the search for one's past and an identity. Hawaiians believe our kūpuna guide our journey when we need to be steered in the right direction.....
One day I was sitting at the computer just having researched in about 15 minutes what should have taken hours. I had little to do and began wondering about researching my own family. With nothing to go on at that moment but my dad's name I found nothing. So I Google a few search terms using the surname "Miller" and Hawaii". A few things came up but I wouldn't know they had relevance until months later. I decided to google "Kamehameha" and this is what came up on the top of the list:
"Kamehameha Day on June 11 is a public holiday of the state of Hawaii in the United States. It honors Kamehameha the Great, the monarch who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaiʻi"
It was, in fact June 11, 2010 with about 5 minutes left on the clock before it became June 12. Seriously. On June 13, 2010 I began wrting and researching about the Hawaiian Royal Family.

A lot of the information I found, has been shared on Wikipedia where appropriate. Wikipedia is used on this site for a few links on history of specific nature unrelated to genealogy sources. Do not use Wikipedia to source your facts. It is a good place to begin finding sources, but should not be the basis for serious research, genealogical or not. Some of the Hawaii related articles I have created include "Kāhili", "Aikāne" and "Konohiki" as well as "Kalaimanokahoʻowaha", "Brick Palace" and "John Mahiʻai Kāneakua".
